Alcazaba of Almería
Do not miss the charm of the Monumental Center of Almeria.
Alcazaba de Almería -Arabic Fortress in Almería-
Its construction begins in 955 by Abd-alRaman III, the first Omeya Caliph of Cordoba. Abd-alRaman grants the category of Medina to Almeria and orders the construction of the Moorish fortress, the fortification of the perimeter of the city and the Great Mosque. It was at that time when the port of Almería becomes the most important of the caliphate of Córdoba and the city begins a phase of splendor that leads it to become one of the richest cities in the known world.

At present the outer walls delimit the perimeter of three enclosures.
Your visit to La Alcazaba de Almería.
You will enter through the outer door that forms part of the wall and leads to La Puerta de La Justicia by climbing a ramp, protected by La Torre de Los Espejos. This tower had a system of mirrors that allowed to see the ships that entered the port of the city. Once at La Alcazaba, you will start your journey through the first enclosure, which now houses a landscaped space. This space housed the residence of the troops and served as a refuge for the population in case of siege. The problems derived from the lack of water were solved by the wheel and the tanks that we can still admire.

Separated from the first enclosure by El Muro de La Vela, we find what was once a palatial citadel, with mosque, baths and everything necessary for what was one of the most important European Courts in the 11th century, under the reign of Almotacín, the king poet of the Moro Kingdom of Almería.

In the third enclosure we find the Christian Castle, ordered to build by the Catholic Kings after the taking of the city by the Christians. Its construction began in 1489 with the aim of adapting the defense of the city to new military and artillery needs. Its structure responds to those of a fortress of the XV century, in which the Torre del Homenaje stands out.
